SONG's Interpreting for Social Justice Training

Registration is closed for this event
SONG is hosting a Social Justice Interpretation Training for members and partners October 12-15th.

This fall, we are excited to host an Interpreting for Social Justice Training. This training is specifically for bilingual and multilingual SONG members who are interested in sharpening their interpreting skills, building a language justice analysis and connecting with other folks across the region.

October 12-15th

Wayside Center for Popular Education

Faber, VA

The goals of this training:

  • To build a cadre of skilled social justice interpreters within the SONG family who can empower immigrant and LGBTQ communities by providing language accessibility to promote social justice.

  • To encourage local leadership in immigrant and LGBTQ communities through sharing skills by training other community members in social justice interpreting.

  • To create multilingual spaces in social justice communities where language is used democratically as a movement-building tool of power.

  • To engage in conversation about LGBTQ specific language and terminology in a social justice interpretation context.

If you are interested, register by Friday, October 6th. Due to limited spaces, we are prioritizing members.  The cost of registration will cover meals and housing throughout the weekend.  Also, we will be offering childcare throughout the weekend.  Please note that participants must commit to the entirety of the training starting Friday at 9:00AM and ending Sunday 1PM. We encourage folks to arrive Thursday evening.

If you have any questions about the training or financial assistance, please contact Salem Acuna at salemacuna@gmail.com or 804-933-9945.
